The Snowfall Review

So here we are. The end of the Snowfall series and boy was it an ending! First things first, Damson Idris deserves all of the awards thrown his way, and I mean ALL OF THEM! Snowfall, in general, also deserves the awards for the poetic series they provided. This is how you do television people. Make us fall in love with the characters just to have them crash from a beautiful character arc. Let's get into it!

Viewers are ranting and raving about Cissy (Franklin's mom) killing Teddy, but I don't think those who are blaming Cissy for Franklin's downfall are understanding that YOU CANNOT TRUST THE CIA! This isn't her first rodeo with the government. Alton had past dealings with them, and it turned him into an alcoholic junkie. I mean do you really trust that Teddy was going to transfer the money in peace without any repercussions? Chile please! This ain't Cissy's fault!

Now let's get into trifling Louie. Some are failing to remember that she went behind Franklin when he was about to have direct connection for the product. He was cutting out the middle man (Teddy and the CIA) and Louie money hungry, greedy, selfish a** spills the beans and makes a deal with Teddy that she can't even keep up with! This is the one thing that changed everything. It was the start and the cause of Franklin's downfall. It's clear and evident, and also the reason our good Unc got killed. I don't see how some people blame Franklin for the death of his uncle but can't see where he ACTUALLY went wrong.

So let's get into that! Franklin Saint. Young black kid turned man, gets in bed with the CIA and forgets his place in the situation. Franklin was a genius in the game up until he wasn't. I've read comments saying that he cared too much for everyone and that was his downfall. Chile please. He cared too much about that money and trusting the CIA who isn't to be trusted. He cared about himself and about his pride! What he did not care about was his unborn child, his wife, LEON (the most loyal character on the show), or his family of connections.

He kept everyone too low for too long. What's funny is how Franklin offers a share in the company as a trade for Leon's millions after he loses everything. He took Yo-Yo for granted. Viewers are just glossing over the fact that Franklin not only sold all the properties, but also went against the mother of his child while she was carrying his baby, who stayed around to the bitter end. I'm glad she took him for damn near all he had. She got her and her baby out of there like her mama said. (Side note: if your s/o disrespects their mother, disrespects your mother, then baby it's just a matter of time before it's your turn).

The end of Snowfall is one of the most classic and best endings I have seen in a long while. I don't think an ending of a show/movie was this tragic since Set It Off! Franklin ends the series with, "The chains are off...I'm free now." Whew! Free of expectations, responsibility, pride, ego, money, and the CIA. I feel that something in him knows that had he got that money back, it wouldn't have been the end, and he would have been a slave to it. Just think about it on a mental health aspect.

Franklin had PTSD, sleep deprived, and was waking up in sweats. He was no longer the character we fell in love with. He was a shell of himself before he even lost it all. In actuality, Franklin went to the limits he did because he could not cope with what his life would be without drug dealing, crack cooking, killing, and running a drug ring. He felt purposeless without it. Making his life work with 1M and passive income that he could have flipped wasn't a reality for him. He wasn't a real business man. Real business men and millionaires have millions put up that they don't even touch for times like what Franklin is going through and not in accounts ran by the CIA. Franklin was just a big time drug dealer, who trusted the white man to be his enslaver and savior, and lost his way. I don't blame him though. The writer's made the show feel so REAL! The GOVERNMENT FUNDED CRACK EPIDEMIC in the 80s ripped families apart in the very way Snowfall presented it.

Some viewers wanted a better ending for Franklin, but that wouldn't have been the reality of a historic time period in America. Ask your parents, aunts, and uncles about the 80s, and the stories about crack in the 80s, and how it effected their friends and family. Franklin hated his father so much that it is exactly who he turned into. If that is not real life poetry in motion, I don't know what is!

All involved in Snowfall understood the assignment. THANK YOU!

PS: a spinoff following Franklin's son with Franklin trying to get clean and be a part of his son's life would be cool... but that's prolli a reach! ok byyyye! Go listen to the Podcast!
